Yes, We Have Stuff for Sale!
The demand for the Centennial memorabilia at the Kansas City event was intense - we planned for our preregistered number plus extras, but a substantial number of folks showed up at the door. Then quite a number bought additional Souvenir Books in the Marketplace, and our stock of Centennial t-shirts was wiped out. But we still have magic and memorabilia for you!
All proceeds from all these items (net over shipping costs, and in the case of the t-shirts, printing costs) go directly to the Heinlein Centennial general fund to offset remaining event expenses and further our future goals. You're welcome to add a donation to your total - Heinlein Centennial's 501(c)(3) status has been approved, and we will provide the relevant charitable-donation information on request. (Note that you can't deduct the cost of the items as donations, only additional amounts. You want to make a sizable donation? Talk to us about what gifts we can offer in return.)
UPDATE - 30 October 2007
- All orders for Centennial t-shirts have been shipped.
- All leftover shirts have been sold. Sorry!
- We have lowered the pricing for the Centennial Souvenir Books and eliminated the slow Media Mail option.
Centennial Souvenir Book
The Centennial Souvenir Book was a smash hit, living up to its advance promises. We have a small stock of them remaining, so get yours (or your save-it-for-the-grandkids copy) now! Just a few of the things you'll find inside:
- A beautiful rendering of Heinlein's 1929 Annapolis yearbook page.
- A short biography by official Heinlein biographer William H. Patterson Jr., based on a new biographical sketch by Dr. Robert Gorsch, illustrated with never-before-seen photos from the Heinlein family archives.
- A photo essay on Robert Heinlein's three wives - yes, it really is three! - including a very rare bridal announcement and photo of his first wife from the Heinlein family archives.
- Heinlein's very first short story, written while he was based on the USS Lexington... set at Annapolis and beautifully illustrated with woodcuts from the 1929 yearbook. It's pretty good, all things considered.
- A rare and humorous article on writing, never reprinted since its 1941 fanzine appearance.
- A long 1945 letter urging the US Navy to build rockets.
- A very long article on future technology and trends written in 1963 for Playboy... but never seen until now.
- Two rare poems by Heinlein, written in his high-school days. Yes, they're worth reading.
- ...That's 15,000 words of unpublished Heinlein!
- Plus almost 12,000 words of appreciation and remembrance by James Gunn, Fred Pohl, Allen Steele, John Scalzi and many more... one of the finest multiview portraits of what Heinlein meant to us and the world ever assembled.
- UPDATE: The Souvenir Book is like most other event 'program books' or memorabilia books - it's 8-1/2 x 11, saddle-stitched, 44 pages total, and very nicely printed and bound. We didn't think it needed further description, but we've had some recipients express surprise that it's more magazine-like than book-like... sorry if anyone was expecting something different!
Our rights and permissions limit the number of copies we can print, so when these are gone... they're gone. Get yours now, or add it to your rare-books searches later!

Centennial T-Shirt - ALL GONE!
The Heinlein Centennial T-Shirt was a huge hit at the event... and in the reorder... but they're all gone now.
The OTHER Centennial T-Shirt: "I Answer for Him!"
You saw it there, but it wasn't our production. Tina Black did them, sold them in the Centennial Marketplace and generously donated a chunk of the proceeds towards the event costs.
Missed your chance to get one? Now you can buy them direct. Click Here or on the image to go to the purchasing site! (Note: this is a separate storefront from the rest of the merchandise here, so complete any order you have before taking your leave!)
Tina's also selling the popular coffee mugs with this design and some other cool Heinleinish stuff... so be sure to visit!
